How our SMS surveys work
Have you received an SMS from InFact inviting you to take part in a survey and wondered why you were contacted? That is a perfectly reasonable question.
InFact is a research company that conducts opinion polls, market research and other types of surveys. We conduct research both independently and on behalf of companies, public authorities and public sector organisations.
One of the methods we use is to invite randomly selected people to take part in web surveys via SMS. Here, we explain how it works, why you may have received an invitation and what it means to participate.
Why have I received an SMS?
When we conduct this type of survey, we draw a random sample from registered phone numbers. If you have received an SMS from us, it does not mean that we already know anything about your opinions, habits or experiences. Your phone number was included in the sample selected for that particular survey.
Using random samples allows us to invite people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You do not need to be a member of a survey panel or have previously expressed an interest in taking part in surveys to receive an invitation from us.
How did InFact get my phone number?
The phone numbers used for our random samples come from sampling data providers. The provider and source may vary depending on the survey and the sampling method used.

How does the survey work?
In the SMS, you will receive a personal link to the survey. When you open the link, you will be taken to a web based questionnaire that can usually be completed easily on your mobile phone.
You do not need to create an account to participate. The questions you are asked and the time it takes to complete the survey depend on the particular study. More information can be found in the invitation or at the beginning of the questionnaire.
Do I have to respond?
Participation in our surveys is voluntary.
You decide whether you want to open the link and take part. You can also leave the survey before submitting your responses if you no longer wish to continue.
Why is my response important?
Taking part in a survey gives you an opportunity to make your voice heard. Your response becomes part of a broader picture that brings together the experiences, opinions and needs of many different people.
InFact conducts surveys for companies, public authorities and public sector organisations, among others. The results can be used to understand what people think about an issue in society, how well a public service is working, the needs of different groups, or how an organisation, product or service could be developed.
For a survey to provide as complete a picture as possible, it is valuable to hear from many different people, not only those who regularly participate in surveys or have strong opinions on a particular issue. By taking part, you contribute your own perspective.
How are my data and responses handled?
We process personal data and survey responses using appropriate security measures and never sell personal data. Clients receive results in aggregated or anonymised form.
