Automated telephone surveys (IVR)
Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is a quantitative data collection method in which questions and answer options are pre-recorded by one of our experienced researchers. Respondents answer by pressing keys on their phone.
This enables standardized, efficient, and cost-effective data collection—without compromising on quality.
We conduct both random and stratified sampling, based on national directories of all available phone numbers in Norway and Sweden.
IVR is a well-established method that we have used for years in political polling—both nationally and locally. The method offers high precision and wide geographic coverage.
A key advantage of IVR is its standardization: all respondents hear the same recording of questions and answer options, with no variation in tone, phrasing, or interpersonal interaction. This minimizes interviewer bias and eliminates social cues that can influence responses in traditional phone interviews.
Another important benefit is the high degree of anonymity. The absence of a human interviewer makes respondents more likely to answer honestly—especially on sensitive or socially difficult topics. This results in higher data quality, even in areas where traditional interviews risk underreporting or social desirability bias.
