“Consistency beats creativity — at least when it comes to newsletters. Show up often enough, and people start showing up for you.”

Newsletters might not be the trendiest marketing tool right now. Social media gets most of the attention, and new channels and platforms keep emerging. Yet time and time again, email proves to be one of the most reliable and effective ways to create real customer connection.

The difference is simple: you own your email list. You’re not dependent on algorithms, ad budgets, or whether someone “likes” your content for it to be seen. A good newsletter lands directly in the inbox – with people who have actually said yes to hearing from you.

After sending hundreds of campaigns for various clients, I’ve seen just how powerful this can be.

For a small local business, a simple monthly newsletter can bring customers back again and again. For a larger chain, automated emails with personalised recommendations can generate thousands of additional sales each year.

What I enjoy most is how little it often takes. Change the subject line, test a new image, or move a button slightly higher up – and the response can shift dramatically. It’s almost always the small details that create the big results.

But the real secret is consistency. Many give up because they don’t see major impact after one or two sends. It’s only when you communicate regularly – and your readers start recognising your tone and rhythm – that you build the loyalty that makes newsletters so valuable.

To me, it’s not just about sales. It’s about relationships. A good newsletter feels more like a conversation than an advertisement. You tell stories, share insights, and invite people in. Over time, it’s that trust that makes people buy, click, and return.

That’s why I believe newsletters will always have a place in the media mix. They’re not the loudest channel, but they deliver – steadily, week after week, month after month.
